NA-00  Elastic Properties of EPS from Flexural Test

Bending tests were performed on geofoam samples from four different manufacturers. Tests were carried out in four different methods including the one according to the ASTM standards. The load deflection curves obtained for each testing was used to determine the Young's Modulus of the EPS geofoam. The effect of sample size and orientation of the loading on the results were investigated. The modulus values obtained in each method were compared with the modulus values obtained in the compression tests performed on geofoam blocks. The bending test results give a meaningful value for the Young's modulus of EPS geofoam as opposed to the lower values obtained from the compression test on 2 inch cubic samples. The results obtained from the bending tests are comparable with middle third modulus obtained from the compression tests on 2 feet cubic samples.

Flexure tests were carried out on EPS samples fromå four different manufacturers. Tests were performed in four different methods including the one according to the ASTM standards. The interpretation of results is in progress.
